This film tells the story of Sister Carmel Wauchope, a sister of the Good Samaritans who resides in the outback town of Whyalla in South Australia, not far from the Baxter detention centre, which closed in 2007. With integrity and determination, Sister Carmel fights for those in need. Her concern for the plight of asylum seekers who have been detained in Baxter detention centre and the ongoing psychological damage and trauma suffered after their release has been the focus of her work since 2001.

The study guide has been written for secondary students. It provides information and suggestions for learning activities in English, Ethics, Media, National Politics, Religion and Society, SOSE, VCE VET Community Services and curriculum projects discussing the issue of asylum seekers.
