Jabe Babe a hybrid approach to documentary film
Jabe Babe a hybrid approach to documentary film
Telling the story of a six foot two inch (188cm) tall woman who works as a dominatrix and suffers from a potentially life threatening genetic condition required a very unique film making approach. By combining fiction film techniques with documentary footage, and through references to fairytale worlds and 50¡s cult cinema, filmmaker Janet Merewether found the perfect way to depict her very original subject - and in the process she created a documentary film that is engaging, poignant and largely atypical.

Introducing design elements into documentary film was a natural step for Janet Merewether as she has a strong background in set design. I actually went just as a design student to the Film School [Australian Film, Television and Radio School] and while I was there, did production design and set design and got into animation, but also started to write and direct short films™ So I have often straddled both design and directing.Œ
