Australia's burning summer
Australia's burning summer
The Australian landscape is one of beautiful bushland; we love our national parks and bush views. Unfortunately, however, having so much bushland in such a warm climate means that Australia is very susceptible to bushfires. In fact, many of our native plants need fire in order to regenerate. It is natural for leaves, branches and bark to build up on the ground, creating the perfect fuel for a bushfire. Then all it takes is the right conditions and one small spark. While fire is a natural part of our environment, it often does not mix well with people. During bushfires, homes, buildings and cars are destroyed and people are often injured or even killed. We cannot stop bushfires occurring, so for most Australians the best protection is knowing exactly what to do when a fire hits too close to home.
