A Hard Place
A Hard Place
This study guide, to accompany A Hard Place, a short film produced by Second Nature Films and written and directed by Kate Clere, has been written for secondary students. It provides information and suggestions for learning activities in SOSE, Health and Human Development, English and Media Studies.

A Hard Place is an experimental short film that explores the struggle modern mothers face as they return to work, leaving their children in the care of others. Childcare is a fact of life for this generation of parents and children. A Hard Place offers a personal and emotional account that many parents will recognize as their experience of balancing work with family life. Still images, by Sarah Smuts Kennedy, portray the drama in a poetic and intimate way. The film is narrated by award winning actress Kerry Armstrong, a working mother of three.
